Obituary
Adell Bryd Moore entered into this life on December 28, 1924 in Greenville, Texas to proud parents of George and Mary Byrd. She had one identical twin sister, Mary Dell Butler, who proceeded her in death.
Adell attended primary and secondary school in Greenville, Texas, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1943. Adell went on to attend Community Colleges in Long Beach and San Francisco, California.
Adell moved to Long Beach, California in 1944 with her twin sister, where she worked for the United States Government during WWII. In 1945 she met Jonathan Kelly Moore and in 1948 they were united in holy matrimony. Adell was very instrumental in raising her husband's two children, Diane and Fred Moore (Fred proceeded her in death). Due to Kelly's career in the military, the couple traveled extensively from coast to coast. They were married 41 years, before J.K. Moore's death in 1990.
Adell accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of fifteen in Greenville, Texas. She joined Christ Second Baptist Church in 1946, where she attended Sunday School and sang in the Gospel Choir. Kelly and Adell moved to San Francisco in 1951 where she attended Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church, serving for 33 years. Moving back to Long Beach, California in 2001, she went back home to Christ Second Baptist Church. Adell lived a Godly life for over 70 years.
Adell and her husband were active Elk members since 1958 (Grand Temple I.B.P.O.E) holding many offices. Adell continued serving with the Elks until her move to Southern California.
Adell was a natural public speaker. She was often called upon to narrate and speak on programs. She frequently performed as commentator and mistress of ceremony for many Christian and community organizational functions.
Adell was a devoted Servant of Christ, dedicated wife and step-mother, a loving sister, wonderful God-mother, a special aunt, and a wonderful friend to many.
Adell leaves to cherish her memory: step-daughter Diane Moore (Robert); two grand-daughters, Carlesa Knolls and Tracy Doherty; one niece Georgia Conley; five nephews, Reggie Butler, Douglas Butler, Eric Butler (Janice), Stan Butler and Timothy Butler; a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; a God-son John (San Francisco, CA.) and many brothers and sisters in Christ.
