Celebrating the Life of Alisha "Peaches" Henderson-Wade

Alisha Henderson-Wade, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and esteemed community leader
in Long Beach, California, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 74. Renowned for her
compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to service, Alisha leaves behind a profound legacy of
faith, love, and leadership that touched countless lives.

Early Life and Family Roots

Born on August 15, 1951, in Long Beach, Alisha was raised as the only child of William and Hazel
Henderson. She was deeply influenced by her grandfather, the late Rev. N. J. Kirkpatrick Sr., who played
a pivotal role in establishing senior housing in the city. Inspired by his vision, Alisha became the CEO and
daily leader of New Hope Homes Inc., a 140-unit HUD-funded senior living community. Through her
leadership, she fostered an environment of dignity, safety, and fellowship for seniors, enhancing facilities,
cultivating gardens, outdoor gathering spaces, and developing programs that transformed the residence
into a vibrant community.

Dedication to the Arts

Affectionately known as "Peaches," Alisha was passionate about the arts. In 1991, she founded
Beautifully Contagious, a gallery and art restoration service devoted to exhibiting and framing Black art.
Her work affirmed identity, celebrated culture, and inspired creativity across generations.

Community Service and Advocacy

Alisha's community service was both extensive and personal. Among her many initiatives were:
 Angel Tree / Prison Fellowship Ministry: She coordinated gift-giving for children of incarcerated
parents, ensuring families received support with privacy and dignity.
 Food Security: Partnered with the Orange County Food Bank and other organizations to
distribute food boxes to seniors and vulnerable households.
 Homeless Outreach: Hosted clothing and food giveaways for unhoused neighbors in greater
Long Beach.
 Health Advocacy: Organized educational events and fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer
Awareness Month.
 Civic Engagement: Made New Hope Homes a polling place, hosted voter education sessions,
and promoted civic participation among seniors and community members.
 Senior Care & Enrichment: Developed programs combining wellness, fellowship, and cultural
activities for residents at New Hope Homes.
 Youth & Arts Programs: Mentored young artists and promoted intergenerational projects
connecting youth with elders.
Her service extended to numerous other initiatives, all reflecting her heartfelt commitment to uplifting
those around her.

Affiliations and Honors

Alisha's broad influence was evident in her active memberships and affiliations. She was a devoted
member of New Hope Baptist Church, Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Inc., the National Council of Negro Women
(NCNW), the Long Beach NAACP Branch, and the Soulful Seniors of Cerritos. Her work received
recognition from the California State Senate, various districts of the California State Legislature, the City
of Long Beach, and many civic organizations.

While she appreciated these honors, Alisha found her greatest satisfaction in the growth and well-being of
her community, believing that the fulfillment of her work outweighed any public recognition.

Faith and Personal Character

Alisha's faith guided every aspect of her life. As a devoted Christian, she lived her beliefs through
action—helping seniors, encouraging young artists, and ensuring children in need received gifts at
Christmas. She will be remembered by friends, colleagues, and family for her warmth, humor, and
generosity.

Family and Legacy

She is survived by her loving husband of forty-five years, Roy Wade Sr.; her beloved children, Milyan
Moore (Deloris), Ruby Wade-Quarterman, Roy Wade Jr. (Edina), Louis Wade (Natasha), Kamele Brown
(Aaron), Jabin Wade (Rita) and her daughter-in-law Shanette Moore. She was preceded in death by her
parents and her son, Kip Moore. Alisha will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, great
grandchildren, extended family, church family, and the many friends and neighbors whose lives she
enriched.
