Obituary
Anthony Leon Butler was born on April 6, 1951 in Long Beach, California. He was the third of eight children, and the oldest son from the union of Richard Leon and Mary Dell Butler who preceded him in death. Tony accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age while attending the family church of Christ Second Baptist.
Tony attended Whittier Elementary, Franklin Jr. High and Long Beach Poly high School. After graduating in 1969, he went on to attend Vocational Education.
Tony was a very social person who enjoyed life and loved everybody. He was involved with the Midnight Basketball Program and a Mentor to many of our young men. He also sent daily inspirational text messages to friends and loved ones to start their day. He was also involved in the Neighborhood Watch, Multimedia Projects and CB Radio Talking with people across the country. While tinkering in his garage, neighbors would often stop by for the help of "MR. FIX IT MAN!!!"
Tony was employed with LBUSD as Campus Security; and later was employed with Long Beach Transit. Tony met and married the love of his life Debra Gipson on April 14, 1990. To this union a son was born Domonic Butler. Tony and Debra were blessed to celebrate their 25th Silver Anniversary on April 14, 2015.
Tony is preceded in death by his sister Beverly Schedneck.
