Obituary

Barbara Ann McClendon was born on February 22, 1942 in Portland, Arkansas to Jim and Sarah Burgess. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; sister Earnestine Whitaker and all of her brothers; Samuel Sherrer, Willie Lee Johnson, Leroy Williams and Jimmy (Suzetta) Burgess, Jr.

After moving to Long Beach, CA with her family in 1950, Ms. Barbara attended schools in the Long Beach Unified School District and became a Licensed Medical Professional. During her career, she provided exceptional care to those she was responsible for and was joy to work with as well.

Not only that, she became everyone's Nurse! Family and Friends...and even some of their family members and friends often called on her when ill and/or just needed counseling. She took care of them until they were well, whether it be by telling them what medicines they should take, an amazing home remedy, an ear to listen to them with, a shoulder to cry on or her wisdom and knowledge to share.

Ms. Barbara was great at her job, but she was an even greater Mother to her four children whom she leaves to mourn Linda Renee Bay, Tina Bay; Eddie Lee McClendon II and Micheal and Oneisha McClendon. All four inherited her God given inner strength, common sense and dedicated love of life, family and animals. Also apparent is the physical strength passed down from loved ones before her and Ms. Barbara's love for music and a good movie flows through their veins. It is through them that her legacy will remain and will keep her fresh in our memories.

Also left to cherish and remember Ms. Barbara is her cat Misty; sister Verna Thomas; ex-husband Eddie Lee McClendon; grand and great grandchildren Alex Lausterer (Alex Jr. DonVan) and Kaylee; nieces and nephews Charles Edward Sherrer (deceased) (Iesha, Saiesah, Tierra, Tasha); Norma Williams (Cedric, Antwan, Shante, Lil Linda: Latoya Burgess (Desmond), Andre Marchiman (Andrea), Derrick Burgess (D'Airra), Sonya, BeBe, Carrell and Hakima Burgess (Abu, Rayhaun), RaKenya Burgess (Lil Louie), Shalenna Burgess (Sha Sha, Lil Shalenna), Katrina, Shanel, Katherine, Courtney and a host of very close friends, Ms. Lula Wallace, Ms. Lucille, Caroline Jackson, Glenda Powel, Audrey Ricard, Dr. Anthony Punchard Darian (Oscar, Omar), LaShon, Samantha, Don, Ace, P-Love, Kenny, DaVon and Tron.
