Obituary



Charles Turnbow was born May 1, 1961 to Sherman Bailey and Mae B. Turnbow. Charles was born in Chicago, Illinois at Cook county Hospital.

Charles grew up in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from Dusable High School and soon after became employed. He accepted Christ at an early age.

Charles met Billiette Barnes and the couple conceived a baby girl, Jewelmae Barnes. Charles was celebrating New Years on the eve of 1989 when he incurred a tragic accident where he was hit by a mini van bus while in the process of pushing his car to the side shoulder off the Dan Ryan Freeway; his spine was crushed and he never walked again.

Charles shortly after moved to Long Beach, California where he began to build a new life. Everyone that Charles met took a profound love for him; he loved people.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother Mae B. Turnbow and grandfather Hartman Turnbow (civil rights leader).

Charles leaves to cherish his memories his only daughter Jewelmae Barnes; 4 grandchildren Teanna Bates, Tanya Bates, Tristian Cooper and Nathaniel Thompson; father Sherman Bailey; two brothers Clifford Dale, Jr. and Rufus Turnbow; three sisters Robin Turnbow, Dorothy A. Bailey and Sharon Turnbow and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
