The picture that you see before is by far my most favorite picture of he that I call friend, confidant, business partner, lover and wonderful husband. And with all of these hats he was a father and a face "glad to be seen by many". This picture shows all over his face that he was getting great joy from doing what no one did like him...ushering and picking at someone he made feel special, and glad that they showed up that day.
However, as the years did go by aft er service he began to show himself needing more rest and I would ask him if he was ready to "turn in his badge and rest his right arm (smile). On these rare occasions his answer was always basically the same..." sweetie, a minister leaves this earth ministering to someone...ushering at Crenshaw Christian Center
is my ministry, not that others are not good ushers but I am a wonderful usher and my assignment is to make all who come my way not only feel good but be treated with graciousness", and all can agree that he did just that. But now I fi nd myself literally on an emotional roller coaster (never did like roller coasters), knowing a few things like, this could never last because none could live this way forever, and in a place that I daily denied that I was
heading to for almost three years, not because I thought him perfect or immortal but thinking I would be long gone before he went just because of who he was and the life he lead. But, I woke up on Thursday a wife and at the close of that day (in a matter of hours) became a widow. However, one writing in these wee hours with the only joy that will keep me in the coming years which is knowing that ma honey suffers no more and is waiting peacefully for that trumpet sound, (knowing he never fought the only fight we have being...holding fast to our faith). He never waivered and his consistent confession and last words to me the night before he began to transcend were, "Dina, I am well in the Lord, and I am healed"...So now for just a little about such a big man...Ernest Edward Allen Sr., (never wanted the Sr., left off ), gift ed into
this world on June 12, 1936 to parents John and Willie (both deceased), in a quaint little town called Watertown, Tennessee with one stop light. Ernest was the second oldest child of 6, Mary (deceased), John Jr. (deceased),
Bobbie (deceased), Virgel and Netta (deceased). Early in his life his parents moved to San Diego California leaving Ernest to be lovingly and indulgently raised by his maternal grand-parents and Mary to have the same from their
paternal grandparents. Then at ages 12 and 14 they were put on a train heading west with their lunches only to be eaten the same day and were given food the rest of the way by the conductor. When his parents divorced and father remarried four more siblings were added to his growing family his three sisters Debra, Nancy and Bonnie and brother Larry aka Suga Man (deceased) all of San Diego.
At the age of 18 he enlisted into the Army and aft er being discharged he became a resident of Los Angeles and tried his hand at many things soon fi nding that selling was his niche and ultimately became a part of the world of insurance. Ernest married his first wife Laura and to their union their daughter Vicky was born, she blessed him with his first grandchildren Dietric, and Victor. Ernest and Laura ended their marriage, and he later married his second wife Janet and they welcomed into their life Melia (daddy's girl), and his first son. Ernest Jr.
