Mrs. Evelyn Kennebrew, affectionately known to her family as "Baby Sister" was born on December 14, 1927, the 2nd of three children to the late Mr.& Mrs. Walter & Elzia Mae Durham in Atlanta Ga. She transitioned from time to eternity to be with The Lord on November 12, 2013. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. She attended E.R. Carter elementary school and Booker T. Washington High school, after graduation she attended business school and married her high school sweetheart the late Mr. Robert A. McMichael Sr. in 1947. From that union four children were born, 2 girls Mildred, Linda, she also had 2 boys that preceded her in death Rev. Robert Jr. and baby Richard McMichael.
After 11 years she found herself a single parent of 3 children, refusing public assistance, she worked two jobs and as a seamstress, made clothes for her daughters. Her sewing was so precise and unique her oldest daughter was named Miss Vogue in her senior high school year. Several years later in Atlanta, Georgia a friend introduced her to Mr. William C. Kennebrew (deceased). After dating for awhile they married in 1965 and moved to Long Beach, California from that union Brian Keith Kennebrew was born.
Evelyn worked and retired from Douglas Aircraft. She lived a good life traveling and spending time with her family and friends over the years until her illness when her faithful daughter Linda was her caretaker.
She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her children Rev. Mildred M Hall of Atlanta, GA, Linda D. McMichael of Long Beach, CA, Brian K. Kennebrew both of Bellflower, CA, one sister Miss Willie Louise Durham of Atlanta, GA, one daughter-in-law Brenda L. McMichael of Denver CO, eleven grandchildren, Antonio M. Hall (Jennifer), Atlanta, GA; Jejuan M Hall, Atlanta GA; Shaundra L. Pines (Derek), Corona, CA; Adrian (Chris) McMichael (Sherron), Bellflower, CA; Taharshia L. Grigsby, Marietta G; Robert A McMichael III, Long Beach, CA; Mariah L. Kennebrew, Lakewood,CA; Cecilia E. Gatewood, Zanda S. Gatewood, Dr. Senella D. Baldwin and Ebony Q. Gatewood all of Denver CO; twenty-two great grandchildren, nine great, great grandchildren a host of other relatives; faithful club members "The Birds of Paradise" and good friends.
