Obituary

Grace's mother, Ida, smiles when she reflects on the sunny afternoon that Grace was born in Little Rock Arkansas on November 30, 1958. The family relocated to Stockton, California in 1960 and eventually moved to Long Beach in 1965. Grace is a graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School where she was known for her performances on stage. In her free time she showed off her basketball skills during pickup games at the park and her sweet dance moves. She was employed as a bus driver by Long Beach Transit in 1981, demonstrated exceptional leadership and was quickly promoted to the position of supervisor. She made many lifelong friends there and still graces the company's Wall of Fame. Her job brought her great joy; she rose before dawn every morning eagerly facing her workday. In August 2001 she retired from Long Beach Transit. Shortly after retirement Grace courageously faced health challenges with optimism and her abiding faith in God. In February 2004 she married Stanley W. Delaney, her early sweetheart, following their long distance courtship. Grace was a spiritual woman with an unusual gift of insight and wisdom. Grace was sought after for her counsel and encouragement of others and was always available to friends and even strangers. In Grace's time of need her husband, mother, and close circle of sister friends- Sarah, Annie, Deborah, and Wanda were there to support and care for her needs. And she loved her Los Angeles Lakers almost as much as her mischievous little dog Remy, her "baby"! On the evening of January 23, 2015, after a long illness, Grace quietly joined her Heavenly Father. Grace is survived by Husband Stanley W. Delaney, Mother Ida Henderson, Sisters-Travis Ann and Mattalyn. Brothers- Franklin, David, Lawrence, Victor, and Anthony. Step Children- Michelle, Michael, and Stanley Jamaal. Nieces- Chinarain, Diamond, Whitney, Rebecca, and Grace, Nephews- DeAndre, Corey, Joshua, Christopher, William, Richard, Daniel, Jacob, and Nathan.
