James Charles Renrick, Jr. also known as "Jim, Sonny, Renrick, Big Daddy, Brother James, Grandpa, Papa, Father and Dad" was born on August 13, 1945. James was born to the late James C. Renrick, Sr. and Betty Renrick in Boston, Massachusetts.

James enlisted in the United States Navy in Greenville, South Carolina on June 21, 1965. During his time in the service, he fought in the Vietnam War and earned a purple heart for his bravery. On June 30, 1991 James retired from the Navy, ending his 26 year career as a Chief Petty Officer in Long Beach, CA.

Prior to his passing, James was employed for 16 years by United Paradyne in which he worked as a Fuel Pier Control Center Operator at Pier 12 in Long Beach, CA. In 1997 while working for United Paradyne James worked hard to help form their union at DFSP in San Pedro in which he served as the Shop Steward for ILWU Local 26. He was the "big guy" his coworkers went to for answers.

James was an avid sports enthusiast, he coached football in the seventies and won numerous championship trophies. James also worked as a referee and umpire calling high school basketball, football and softball/baseball games during the nineties. Not only was he involved in sports but he enjoyed watching both college and professional sports as well. His favorite teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

James was a great cook, he knew how to "doctor-up" any dish he made to make it great tasting. He also loved watching movies, old western TV shows, Family Feud, People's Court and especially Judge Judy. James will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, which will be truly missed by all who knew him.

On Sunday, January 6, 2013, James made a peaceful transition. Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife Alma Renrick; his three daughters Maria Peterson, Villabeth Ikobi and Rachel Renrick; his son-in laws Brian Peterson and Patrick Ikobi; his two grandchildren Arinze Ikobi and 10 week old unborn baby due in August of 2013 and a host of other relatives and friends
