Jewel Harvey-Tate was born on January 5, 1956 in Long Beach, California to parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Harvey Sr. Jewel was the youngest of three children.

In 1974, Jewel graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School Home of Scholars & Champions. Jewel also earned academic and vocational certificates from Long Beach City College.

Jewel accepted Christ at an early age; she became a member of Christ Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Herman Gore Sr. Jewel's love of singing and, love of praise & worship persuaded her to contribute her voice to the CSB Youth Choir, and Inspirational Choir. Jewel's distinct alto vibrato could be heard just about anywhere in the sanctuary. As an active member, she participated in several church ministries and auxiliaries, including the CSB Usher Board, the Mother's Board and hospitality committees.

In 1979, Jewel Harvey met and married Larry C. Tate. Three beautiful daughters were born to their union; Rosetta, Vanessa and Jasmine.

Jewel began her professional career with aircraft and aerospace company, McDonnell Douglas; and later with the Boeing Corporation. Jewel held various skilled and technical roles; specifically, CRT Operator; Material Handler and, a Material Record Analyst for Boeing's military C-17 aircraft production project; alongside her colleagues in MCD-Boeing Building 52. Coworkers often expressed that Jewel's smile and outgoing bubbly personality was a pleasure to be around. On several occasions, Jewel was known to personally deliver a birthday singing telegram to delight fellow coworkers. Jewel's energetic spirit was admired by everyone. Jewel retired from the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Corporation in June, 2011 celebrating 32 years of service.

On the morning of January 9, 2017, Jewel departed this life and made a peaceful transition from labor to reward. She fought a good fight, she finished her course and kept the faith. Jewel will be immensely missed by her family, as well as by all who knew and loved her.

Jewel Harvey-Tate is preceded in death by her mother and father Rosie and Roscoe Harvey Sr; and sister, Gloria Wall. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Larry; her daughters Rosetta, Vanessa and Jasmine; her brother Roscoe Harvey Jr., three grandchildren Camren, Ariana and Akelah. She will also be remembered by her four nieces, Angel Smyth-Gomez, Jewel Smyth, Dionn Wall, Yvonne Harvey, two nephews, Michael Wall and Marcus Lee Harvey; along with a host of other relatives, extended church family and, many lifelong friends.
