Obituary
Jimmie Burgess, Jr. was born February 27, 1947 in Portland, Arkansas to Jim Burgess and Sarah Polite whom preceded him in death. Jimmie was the seventh sibling. His son Jimmie Burgess III and brothers Samuel Sheerer, Willie Lee Johnson, Leroy Williams and sister Earnestine Whitaker all preceded him in death.
In 1950 his family moved to Long Beach, CA. Jimmie received his education in the Long Beach Unified School District.
Jimmie was a diligent and hard worker. During his career he was employed with the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, General Motors and Firestone Tires prior to their closure. Jimmie soon retired to enjoy Life's Pleasures. During his 66 years of life, it was obvious to everyone that Jimmie knew no strangers and was a friend to many. Anyone who was in need could call and he would always lend a helping hand. He was well respected in the community and was a shoulder to lean on as well as to laugh and joke with. His favorite past time was Fishing; he would get up at the break of dawn to board the Fishing Boat at every opportunity he had. Jimmie enjoyed baseball and was The #1 Dodger Fan. When he wasn't watching baseball you would catch him watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza or The RiffleMan.
Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory a loving family; seven children LaTonya Burgess (Tye), Derrick Burgess, Carrell Burgess, Shalenna Burgess, Rakenya Burgess, Andre Marchiman and Dajuan Jackson; eight grandchildren K-Vaun S. Veney, Desmond Burgess, D'Airra Burgess, Jonshanayia Copeland, Louie Burgess, Abu Burgess, Rayhaun Burgess and Shalenna Burgess; two sisters Vera Thomas and Barbara McClendon; special friend Glenda Faye Powell and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
