Obituary

Joe Louis Newman was born to Weldon and Enolia Newman in Ben Franklin, TX on June 14, 1946. He was the sixth of ten children born to the Newmans.

Joe excelled in sports and academics in both high school and college. He attended Dunbar High School in Lubbock, TX. Known as the greatest running back to grace the football fields of Lubbock, Joe was named All-State in 1963 in both football and basketball. After graduating from Dunbar High, Joe attended Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, WA and Colorado State University.

Joe moved to California in 1968 where he resided until his death. In his free time, Joe loved to play golf. He enjoyed traveling the state to play at some of California's most beautiful golf courses. Joe retired as a Network Analyst from the California State University Chancellor's Office in 2009.

Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Jessie Coleman, sister Deloris Ann Dickson and son Antione Gilmore.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 25 years Ruthie Newman; sons Joseph Warren, Darryl Warren, James Todd Johnson, Anthony Smith, Nathan Hull and Rocky Baldwin; daughters Donna Warren, Terez Robinson, Trish Newman and Courtney Newman and a host of siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
