Obituary

Mamie Lee Branch Moragne, devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend passed away February 8, 2024.  Mamie was born January 12, 1949 in Watson, Arkansas.  As the eldest daughter born to Dorothy Mae Jackson and the late John West Branch, she was affectionately known as the little big sister who was always laughing and smiling.

At an early age, Mamie welcomed Christ into her life as a member of St. John AME church, which established her love of faith, family and education.

Upon graduating from Wolfe Project High School in Tillar, Arkansas, Mamie pursued higher education at AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), earning a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics in 1970.  Following graduation, she briefly worked as an elementary school teacher in the Desha Central School District in Tillar, Arkansas which ignited her lifelong passion of teaching.

As fate would have it, in the summer of 1971 Mamie met her soulmate and the love of her life, Bruce Edward Moragne.  He drove over 100 miles to see her for their first date and quickly swept her off her feet which began their lifelong friendship and courtship.  On December 18, 1971, they united in matrimony in Watson, Arkansas and relocated to Carson, California in 1972, where they raised their three daughters.  Bruce and Mamie were inseparable as they journeyed through life together, and it was rare that you saw one and did not see the other.  Together they enjoyed family get togethers and quiet time at home until Bruce's passing in 2019.

Mamie briefly taught school after relocating to California but pursued and held a career at United Airlines until her retirement in 2005.  After retirement, her passion for working with young children and teaching ultimately led her back to the classroom at Carson Christian School where she was awarded the Mayor's Teacher of the Year on two separate occasions for her dedication as an educator.

She leaves her lasting memory and legacy to her mother, Dorothy Jackson Branch, her three daughters, Pamela Parker (Ricky);  Monecia Evans (Charles) and Amelia Faggétt (Derrick); eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; four sisters, ten brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who held a special place in her heart.

Mamie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, her grandson Maleek Thomas, two bothers Chester Perry and Lindzey Lee Branch, and two sisters Dorothy Branch Rolfe and Marine Branch.

A Celebration of Life for Mamie Moragne will be held on February 24, 2024 at 11 am at Ekklesia of Christ Apostolic Church in Carson, California.  A memorial service will follow on March 2, 2024 at 11 am at Allen Temple AME Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
