Obituary

Nealie Magee was born on January 11, 1962 to Lucius and Clotee Magee in Long Beach, California. She was the eighth of nine children. Nealie married Augustine Calhoun, Jr., and to that union, Augustine Calhoun, III was born. At an early age, Nealie united with Light House Church of God in Christ and later joined Greater Deliverance Church of God in Christ where she accepted Christ.

Nealie graduated from Long Beach Poly High School. She often mentioned her most rewarding jobs were Juvenile Correctional Officer for the County of Dallas (Texas) and Youth Leader for Hutch Youth Club (Long Beach), where she was able to make a difference in the lives of many youth. She also worked for many years in the fashion and beauty supply industry. Nealie retired from the City in 2015. She worked for the City of Long Beach in the Gas, Harbor and Parks, Recreation and Marine Departments.

Nealie's pride and joy was her granddaughter Austin. Nealie loved to take her shopping and dress her in the lastest fashion. She always encouraged her to excel in her education.

Nealie was a compassionate person who took pride in making all people around her feel they were the "most special" person in her life. Nealie expected people to get alone and did not listen to negative information from those around her. She loved her family. She gave all nephews and nieces nick-names.

Nealie continued to be thankful to God during her lengthy illness. A special thanks to City of Hope, Dr. Yuan Yuan, Deborah Collins, PA, Sherriel Murry-Myles and her sisters Ruth Smith and Dora Hogan, for their support and contribution to her treatment.

Nealie departed this life on June 15, 2017. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Augustine Calhoun, Jr. ; son Augustine Calhoun III; father Lucius Magee Sr., brothers Lucius Magee Jr., and Michael Magee; and Sister Minnie Scott. She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother Clotee Magee; siblings: Verma Brackins (Leslie), Christine Macon, Dora Hogan (Lester), Ruth Smith (Marcus), and Elaine Logan (Vincent); grandchild Austin Calhoun; dedicated relatives Frank Jones, Sharon Powell, Andre Rambo and Anthony McGinest and a host of relatives and friends.
