Obituary

Visitation: Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Long Beach Colonial Mortuary.

Service: Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Baptist Church; 1160 New York Street; Long beach, CA.

Interment:Rose Hills Memorial Park; 3888 Workman Mill Road; Whittier, CA 90601.

Sister Noni Rucker Martin was the youngest of ten siblings born to Archie and Ruth Rucker in Watts, CA. Six brothers: Joel, James, Phillip, Bobby Jimmy and Sonny Rucker. Two sisters: LouElla Holder and Beatrice William. Her parents and 8 sibling preceded her in death.

Sis. Martin attended and graduated from Compton Unified School District. She accepted Christ at an early age in Watts, CA. She later united with the New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. N. J. Kirkpatrick, Sr. And continued to service under the leadership of Pastor Reuben R. English, Sr. Emeritus and was presently serving under the leadership of Pastor Coleman Hart. She served faithfully in the Senior Choir. She served as President of the Woman Missionary Union (WMU). Sis. Martin was a member of the Friendship Club. She attended the Women Sunday School Class. She also served in the kitchen and assisted the bereaved family. Sis. Martin also served on the committee and helped distribute food to the needy and homebound. Sis. Martin started the Floral Ministry. Every Monday she would take flowers to the homebound and convalescent Homes. Sis. Martin loved to travel, bowl and take pictures. She retired from the VA Hospital in 1999. Sis. Martin loved her church and worked faithfully until her health begin to fail. Sis. Martin met and married Jesse Martin in 1958. They shared many happy years together. She leave to cherish her memory her Beloved husband, Jesse Martin, one sister Beatrice Williams, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. One Special Niece, Sandra Rucker, two godsons, Curtis Thomas and James Lavale Gaither who played a very important part in her life and took care of her in her declining years.
