Interment will be at Temple Cemetery in Temple, Oklahoma

Her Life Story



Odessa Turner was born March 6, 1923 in Mineral Springs, Arkansas to the late Beulah and Howard Turner. Odessa was the sixth of nine children. In Oklahoma is where she received her early education.

May 12, 1946 she married the late John Grant on Mother's Day. In 1951 they moved to Long Beach, CA where she worked as a Day Worker. In addition, she was a hair stylist, which she learned as a little girl. She moved her employment to the Veterans Administration where Odessa was employed for nine years. While working at the Veteran Administration, she attended beauty school and became a Licensed Beautician. After obtaining her license, she styled hair QT's Hair Fashion for many years. Which after time she became the owner of the Westside Beauty Salon "The friendliest shop in town" where she was pressing, curling, and "doin hair" with her God given talent.

Throughout her life she was a blessing to Christ Second Baptist church. Odessa served in many auxiliaries such as the Masters Ladies Rainbow Club where she could be found out front greeting visitors as well as members with her bright smile. She was also an active member of Senior Ministry. On Monday's she could be spotted at Noon Day Prayer Meeting.

Odessa enjoyed studying the Bible, working crossword puzzles in ink and crocheting. She loved people and cooking, where she was known for the famous "sweet potatoes" and "pound cake."

She was preceded in death by her husband J.C.; son Chris; two brothers Auther and W.H.; four sisters Beulah, Eulah, Lottie and Beatrice and Grandson Melvin Roland. On September 5, 2015 Odessa went from labor to reward.

Odessa leaves to cherish her memory sister Lena Tisdale of Oklahoma City, OK; brother Birmond Turner of Dallas, TX; niece adopted daughter Betty Roland of Long Beach, CA; granddaughters Wanita and Angela Roland of Long Beach, CA; Godson Anthony Kellum of Long Beach, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
