Service: Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church; 1160 New York Street; Long Beach, CA.

Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Park; 1500 E. San Antonio Dr.; Long Beach, CA.

Obituary

Rosalind Hortensia Gilyard was born to Waleen C. Robinson on April 8, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan. In the summer of 1959 the family moved to Long Beach, CA where Rosalind grew up and accepted Christ at an early age. She joined New Hope Baptist Church; which back then was under the leadership of Reverend N.J. Kirkpatrick. While attending New Hope Baptist Church she was an active member in the Pastor Choir as well as the Youth Choir. Rosalind then joined the Coretta Circle #34 Youth Department Order of the Eastern Star; under the guidance of her grandmother Hortensia Gilyard. There after she attended several other churches on a regular basis.

Rosalind attended Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA; while being there she discovered her passion for cooking. She always dreamed of running her own catering business. Rosalind was a devoted grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was always so outgoing and full of joy. She always gave advice and would lend a helping hand to those around her. Rosalind also had a love for music and dancing; so whenever she would hear a beat drop, there she went. She had an infectious laugh that no one could forget and would laugh along anytime they heard her laugh regardless if it were funny.

Rosalind is preceded in death by her grandmother Hortensia Gilyard and uncle Walter Gilyard.

Rosalind leaves to cherish her memories her mother Waleen Robinson of Long Beach, CA; three sons Melvin (Laura) Sherman II of Sacramento, CA, Robert Sherman of Newport News, VA and Tyrone Jenkins of Long Beach, CA; one daughter Ty'Quisha Jenkins of Long Beach, CA; two brothers McKinley Robinson II of Long Beach, CA and Keith (Rocquel) Robinson of Newport News, VA; one sister Regina Robinson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; four granddaughters; three grandsons; four nieces; three nephews; one grandniece; three grandnephews; two special cousins Shawn Abrams of Las Vegas, Nevada and Denisha Gilyard of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and a host of other relatives and close friends.
