Reflection of Life

Samuel Lee Hill, affectionately known as Sam, was born on September 21, 1929 in Tuscalousa, Alabama to the union of Ezekiel and Zenna Hill (who preceded him in death). Sam departed this life on February 8, 2015 at the age of 85 in Long Beach, California.

On September 13, 1952, he married the love of his life, Bertha Lee Robinson. To this union came five children. Sam and Bertha joined Christ Second Baptist and were faithful members. They worked hard to raise upstanding children and make a comfortable living for their family.

Sam was a prominent businessman in the City of Long Beach. He owned a hotel, restaurant and lounge; however, he was best known for founding the taxi service Senior Citizens Share-a- Ride in 1982.

He was a beloved member of the community and always wanted to make a difference. As a result, he joined the Long Beach NAACP Chapter and was an active member. He prided himself on making contributions to several charities and organizations. He was also a proud Mason and a member of Sunset Lodge #26.

Sam was wise, witty, bold, fearless, generous and compassionate. Everyone knew he had a BIG heart and always went above and beyond to help others in need, especially his family. He enjoyed the simple things in life but was determined to leave a legacy for his family and generations to come.

Sam was preceded in death by his brothers Charlie, Ezekial, Jr. and Johnny and his sisters Grace and Willie Iretha. He leaves to cherish warm and fond memories, his beloved wife Bertha Hill; children Samuel Jr., Lorenzo, Irene Harris (Magellan), Lonzo and Terry; 1 sister, Stella Davis; 9 grandchildren, Maria, Deshun, Jamilla, Cherrell, Marlies, Magellan, Jr., Tilda, Dazon and Sergio; 14 great grand- children and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
