Sanco Grant Jr. was born on September 9, 1952 in Jackson, South Carolina. During his childhood years, Sanco enjoyed playing basketball and football with his family members in Houston, Texas and Augusta, Georgia. At the age of 16, he relocated to the West Side of Long Beach, California where he accepted Jesus Christ, joined St. Mark Baptist Church and served as an Usher. As a student-athlete at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Sanco participated as a member of the swimming and wrestling teams. He was also an exceptional long-distance runner on the track team. Shortly after moving to Long Beach, Sanco met his high school sweetheart Angenette and it wasn't long before they wed and enjoyed over 39 years of life experiences together.

Sanco graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1971, and attended Long Beach City College before starting his 30 year career as a Pile Driver within Union Local 2375. In his spare time, Sanco practiced karate with Chuck Norris. Sanco was a natural leader that afforded him the ability to interact and influence many lives as he matured as a man. His natural leadership skills propelled him within the ranks to become a Foreman and Union Steward.

Sanco enjoyed over 39 years of marriage with Angenette Grant and had the opportunity to raise three children. Separate from day to day professional activities, Sanco found time to partake within various Community activities. Sanco was an exceptional Baseball and Football coach for all three of his children throughout their childhoods. While coaching his children, Sanco became a father figure and life coach to many other kids. During the off seasons, Sanco continued to act as a pillar of the community by allowing the neighborhood kids to utilize his home as a music studio, eventually named the Sugar Shack. This afforded for many neighborhood kids to have a safe haven, allowing them to avoid destructive distractions in the streets of Long Beach.

This safe haven extended as far as allowing friends and family to occupy rooms inside of his home. If you cruised down the 100th block of Long Beach Boulevard and looked west to Scott Street, the view of smoke from the grill was evident. Over the years BBQ by Grant was perfected like aging wine. Sanco produced the best ribs & chicken coupled with an amazing sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. When it was time to have fun and relax with close friends and family, Sanco loved to vacation, believing that his sons should experience as much of the world as possible. He had the opportunity to experience approximately 23 States, various parts of Mexico and the Western and Eastern Caribbean.
Sanco was a true inventor. He created many inventions such as the Gut Buster, The Remote Control Holder, the first Jacuzzi that functioned on a water heater and a host of other useful items. Sanco also had a passion for Gaming Sports such as fishing and hunting for rabbits, quails and deer. After an early retirement, Sanco fell in love with the game of golf. Sanco was able to maintain his competitive edge while occupying his time and creating great relationships. He became a member of the Cosmopolitan Golf Club and held the position of Sergeant at Arms. His success in golf allowed him to earn many awards, trophies and acknowledgements.

Sanco was survived by his loving WIFE Angenette Grant; CHILDREN Sanco Grant III (LaShay), Travon Grant (Vennieta) and Donte Grant; MOTHER Cary Ham; AUNTS Cary Harper, Susanna Thomas and Tommy Mae Smith; BROTHER/SISTERS Bernard Hardy (Deedra), Cynthia Moore, Gwendolyn Mason and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sanco Grant, Jr of 10 West Scott Street, Long Beach, California, passed away on May 7th, 2013, after a long fought battle with cancer.
