Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Lee Hines-Davis was born March 4, 1943 in Taft, Texas to the late Henry Mae Porter-Pleasant and Lee Roy Pleasant.

Shirley was the eldest of five children born to that union. She attended public school in the Taft Unified School District. Shirley received Christ at an early age and was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Taft, Texas. As a child, Shirley loved to play the piano and was a star on the Taft High School Girl's Basketball Team. As an adult, she loved wearing high quality perfumes and taking bubble baths; as well as routine trips to pamper herself at her favorite nail salon. She enjoyed reading the bible, hearing a good sermon and making it a point to tell others about how far God had brought her.

Shirley is preceded in death by her son Michael Rhodes (May 11, 1979), her father Lee Roy Pleasant (May 15, 1990), her brother Leroy Pleasant, Jr. (September 6, 1990) and her mother Henry Mae Tones (August 17, 2004).

Shirley is survived by loving family members to cherish her memory. Those surviving family members include her loving and devoted husband, Emmett Davis, Jr.; her children: Wanda Rhodes (Los Angeles, CA), and Lenard Rhodes, Jr. (Compton, CA); brothers: Dr. Morris K. Pleasant (Sharon) (Sacramento, CA) and Charles H. Pleasant (Gia) (Austin, TX); sister Vickie L. Stephens-Lee (Tyrone) (Compton, CA) and half-sister Regina Pleasant (Corpus Christi, TX); nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one uncle, Ernest Pleasant (Corpus Christi, TX); one aunt, Alberta Pleasant-Yancy (Corpus Christi, TX); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
