Obituary

Stephen Douglas Wharton was born October 23rd, 1940, the second born of four siblings, to the proud parents of Fred and Isabel Wharton in Santa Monica California.

Stephen attended St. Ann's Catholic Church and accepted Christ at an early age of five years old. He attended St. Ann's Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Santa Monica High School, California in 1959.

He then enlisted in the service and began boot camp at the Alameda Coast Guard Station in September 1959. He continued his training in Miami, Florida, serving as a Fire Control Technician aboard his assigned ship. He was honorably discharged in September 1965. After that journey he went on to work at Vio Shan for the next thirty two years, where he did a variety of machine, tool and die work. Stephen would then be laid off soon after and enjoy the passion for living life with his humble heart, bright smile but firm personality of his way or no way.  Stephen had no problem telling anyone "NO" with a smile and would give a chuckle of laughter right after.

Stephen loved people, he fell in love with Steam Engines and his favorites were #93 and #40. He also loved planes and in fact with the Nevada Northern Railway in 2005 he had the opportunity to go on a train operating test and pass to operate trains to mines.  He said it was the best four hundred and sixty dollars he ever spent!

In 2006, Memorial weekend he had the opportunity to ride, for the third time Engine #93, one of his favorites!

Stephen always had a giving heart and lived life with intentions of his way or no way. He proceeds in death to his late parents, his first sibling Fred Jr. passed away due to complications from heart disease.

Stephen leaves his dear brothers John, Jimmy, his special niece Shannan, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, a host of many family members, a lot of friends that will carry on his smile in their precious memories that he had given to each of us.  As he would always say "Aloha Malay Konnichiwa" meaning (Farewell people and good day to all).
