Vashti Hempstead Davis born July 29, 1918 was the seventh child of Lena Smith Hempstead and Roy Hempstead in Athens, LA. She departed this life on May 29, 2014. Her early years were spent mostly in the south from Louisiana to Texarkana, Texas. In 1971 she relocated to Los Angeles California to be with her daughters.
Who was this wonderful woman? She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves to mourn two sisters, Lela (Leland) Cain of Chicago, Illinois, and Pearl Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio. She was the Matriarch of four generations. Mother of 4 daughters, LySandra Davis, (deceased), Alice (Robert) Mitchell of Harbor City, CA, Dr. Carrie (Elbert) Crum of Carson, CA, Mary (Franklin) Wilson-Haynes of Lakewood, CA., Grandmother of Gregory Junior of Los Angeles, Lynn Armstrong of Collierville, Tenn., Monette Crum of Carson, CA, Roderick Junior of Long Beach, CA, Robin Mitchell of Harbor City, CA Elbert Alan (Anitra) Crum of Carson, CA. She was also the great grandmother of Janae Armstrong, Jennell Junior, Britanae Junior, Andrew Armstrong, Zachary Crum, Xavier Crum, Makelia Junior, and Brandon Junior. Along a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her passion was helping others. She was known in her neighborhood and family for her love of cooking. She would cook for the neighbors and call them to get some "collard greens" and some cake. Her virtues were her strength, her pleasant personality, and her love for others.
