Obituary
Yolanda Wilson was born in Charleston South Carolina on March 29, 1952 to the late Eddie Green and Ethel G. Calhoun. Yolanda was the sixth of seven children. In 1966 at the age of 14 she moved to Long Beach, California with her mother and step father Clifton T. Calhoun. She attended Stephens Jr. High School, and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where she ran track. After graduation she worked at the VA as hospital a nurse's assistant. Yolanda received certification as a dental x-ray technician, later to be employed by FHP, and was a talented seamstress. She was a member of New Hope Holiness Church, and was known to family and friends as "Linda".
Yolanda birthed two children, Darrell Johnson and Shanisha (Marcus) Reese; and was a caring grandmother to four grandchildren. She married Jimmy Wilson on October 4, 1991. She loved spending time with her family and attending bible study with her sister-in-law Mary Wilson.
Her joyous spirit, infectious laugh, soft demeanor, and beautiful smile come to mind immediately when we think of Linda. She will be forever missed.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother Louise Grant "Mama Ella", and grandfather Robert M. Grant, step-father Clifton T. Calhoun and mother Ethel Calhoun, aunts Bertha Mae Johnson, uncle Melvin Grant, sisters Margaret Manigault and Mariam Manigault, step-sister Patricia Ann (Calhoun) Tolliver, sister-in-law Vivian Ann Wilson, brother Dewayne Calhoun, and niece Cynthia Pettiway.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Darrell Johnson; daughter Shanisha (Marcus) Reese; husband Jimmy Wilson; granddaughter Brittany Reese; grandsons Xavier Reese, Darrell Johnson Jr. and Damaris Johnson; uncle Leroy Grant; aunts Beverly Grant and Queenie Grant; sisters Bernice Savage, Willamae Manigault and Patricia Grant; sisters-in-law Mary Wilson, Champagne Young and Betty Allen; step-children and grandchildren; nieces Sonia Washington, Leah (Raymond) Radford, Sheree (Anthony) Bullock and Legia (Charlie) Savage; nephews John Manigault, Darius Mims and John Savage and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Tanya Wade.
